But when Peyton uncovers her boyfriend’s dark secret, she confronts him—and finds herself falling down a flight of stairs. Peyton’s knee—and maybe her dream of going pro—is shattered. Everyone is talking: Was she pushed, or did she fall? Peyton knows the truth, even if no one believes her.

He has to let someone in before it’s too late.

With her future on the line, Peyton goes to stay with her uncle in a small Tennessee town to focus on her recovery. Dating is the last thing on her mind—until she meets sweet, sexy Owen Law.

But Peyton doesn’t trust her heart, especially when she senses that Owen is hiding something. When their secrets are finally exposed, Peyton has to decide if love is worth fighting for.

Kami Garcia is an author who's been on my radar for as long as I've been book blogging. She stunned me with her collaborative series, The Caster Chronicles, with Margaret Stohl, and continuously kept me hooked with The Lovely Reckless, and The Legion series. No matter the genre, I've been overwhelmingly pleased with Kami Garcia's creative and otherworldly universes. With Broken Beautiful Hearts, her second contemporary YA title, I was eager to dive in.

"I believe everything happens for a reason and usually the reason sucks. I also believe the laces from my eighth-grade soccer cleats are good luck, Adele is the most talented singer to ever walk the earth, and popcorn without butter is just corn."

Broken Beautiful Hearts is a STUNNER. If you've read and loved The Lovely Reckless, I can fully guarantee a solid 5/5 for Broken Beautiful Hearts. Kami Garcia's protagonist, Peyton, is a realistic and emotionally shocking character. I was blown away at how identifiable she was. Witnessing her be overcome with pain and guilt over being called a liar in regards to her incident was, in my experience, devastating to read. It put me at eye level with Peyton, and is what ultimately had me wrapped around her woven tale. Although the move to a small town/school was a tad cliche, I felt that it worked in Peyton's favor, story wise. It gave me a far greater feel for her character, and worked wonderfully with Owen's introduction to Broken Beautiful Hearts, and overall solidified the growth not only Peyton would face, but the other sub characters present.

All in all, I felt the story line in Broken Beautiful Hearts was woven beautifully and was written with a keen eye for detail and realism. I adored Peyton, Owen, the Twins, and so much more. It was a delight to read from beginning to end. I highly recommend Broken Beautiful Hearts by Kami Garcia to fans of her other work, and for lovers of sweet contemporary romances that will leave you reaching for a fan and cool glass of water.
